Virginia Mae Matsco passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 2, 2020. She went to be with her Lord and reunited with her husband Bill at the age of 92. She was born March 9, 1928 in Flint, Michigan to William and Ethel Krepp.
After graduating from high school, she worked for Krasner Jewelers, where she met the love of her life, Bill Matsco. They were married on August 21,1948 and celebrated 38 years of marriage before his death in 1986. They were bound by their Catholic faith and raising their 11 children.
Besides being a loving mother and grandmother, Virginia was the Director of Religious Education at St Luke Catholic Church from 1985 until her retirement at the age of 75. She was a dedicated volunteer as board member for Dukette Catholic School, religious education teacher at St. Robert School in Flushing, Mi and worker at North End Soup Kitchen. She played a major, caring role as chair of St Luke Food Pantry in Flint. Her devotion to helping those in need was just one example of her caring heart.
Virginia had endless energy and was feisty until the end. She was totally devoted to her family and provided words of wisdom to all. Since Covid, her greatest joy was Zooming with her family each Sunday afternoon.
Besides her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her children, Mary King and Lucille Mieloch, siblings Eleanor Kussman, Helen Maheu, George Krepp and Gene Krepp. She is survived by her children Kathy (Sid) Allen, Jeanette (Jim) Welsh, Susan (Keith) Gensheimer, Joan (Mark) Bauman, Theresa Matsco (Dan Kummer), Jim Matsco (Starla Henry), John (Maria) Matsco, Joe (April) Matsco, Andrea (Tony) Pace and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will take place Friday, September 4th at Sharps Funeral Home 8138 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek, Michigan 5-8 p.m. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley St, Flint, Michigan at 11:00 a.m. Visitation at church will precede the service at 10:00 a.m. Father Tom Firestone will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to St John Vianney Catholic Church. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
