Atkinson, Bro. Mitchell, Sr. age-100 passed away Wednesday April 13, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11am Wednesday April 20, 2016 from the North Central Church of Christ 2001 N. Saginaw St., Bro. Rigel J. Dawson officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30am for visitation. Bro. Atkinson will repose in the Chapel of the Martin J. Banks Funeral from 9am until 6pm Tuesday.
Bro. Mitchell Atkinson, Sr. was born December 31, 1915 in Live Oak, Florida the son of Ducker and Katie Mae (Broom) Atkinson. He came to Flint in 1946 retiring from Buick Motors Co. working in the foundry and retiring as a truck driver after 30yrs. of service. He was a long time member of the North Central Church of Christ Family and UAW Local 599 and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and horseshoes. He leaves to cherish his memory daughter Vaneva Ewell of Mt. Morris, Mi, son Mitchell Atkinson, Jr. of Flint, Mi. 14 grandchildren Bernadette, David, Allison, Megan, Ramona, Bryan, Rashad, Lottie, Candace, Darryl, Joey, Corinthia, Ross, and Maxine. 17 great grandchildren Marcellus, Shari, Candice, Ava, Charlotte, Allisha, Keisha, Rena, Charlene, Reener, Josiah, Briana, Morgan, Mitchell, Phillip, Malik and Darius. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Leola, Ester and Pearly 9 brothers Junius, Ethan, David, Bud, Charles, Jim, Nathaniel, Thomas and Edmund. A host of other relatives and friends including sister in law Mrs. Tiny Smith, Cleveland, Roscoe and the North Central Church of Christ Family
