Mary was born in Flint, MI on October 13, 1940, daughter of the late John and Margaret Elaine (Evans) Diem. She graduated from Montrose High School in 1958 and married Jerry Luke Groulx on January 30, 1959. Together they had nine beautiful children; Phillip David, Regina Marie, Mark Alan, Sherri Lynn, John Matthew, Jerry Anthony, Kelly Renee, Lynnann Marie and Luke Jerry. Mary was a homemaker all her life and raised all of her children while her husband provided for them and worked for General Motors. As the children grew older the family loved taking trips together. They converted an old commercial school bus into a camper and spend many days traveling around the United States and vacationing. However, their favorite place to visit was a short two-hour trip North to Round Lake Campground. All of Mary’s children and grandchildren still vacation there to this day. In 1970 Mary lost her first-born son, Phillip at the age of 10. In 1980 she experienced tragic loss again and her husband, Jerry passed away at the age of 40. They had been married 20 years and built a beautiful life and family. With children of all ages at home Mary continued to raise her kids the best way she knew how.

Mary was a devoted catholic her entire life and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Montrose. She loved the Lord with her whole heart and made it a priority of going to church and reading her bible. In the early 1990’s Mary met a special friend, Louie Fisher and that friendship lasted over 10 years until his death in 2002. Mary enjoyed going out to breakfast with her sisters on Tuesdays and equally enjoyed arguing with them any chance she could. :) Her grandchildren remember many hours of sitting on Grandma's lap as she read to them while Christian Television played in the background. She had a fun, contagious laugh and the most beautiful smile. Mary loved playing cards, Rummy and Euchre with the adults and old maid with the grandkids. She was an avid walker and loved her furry cat companion, Tabby. We will always remember Grandma for her signature saying of, “OH BOY.”
