MARRA, Shirley A. – of Davison, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, age 82, passed away October 27, 2016 at McLaren-Flint.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held 2 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Rev. Fr. Andrew A. Czajkowski officiating. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Wednesday. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 PM Tuesday.
Shirley was born in Flint, MI on May 29, 1934, daughter of the late Vernon and Dorothy (Coffey) LaMay. She married John Anthony Marra, Jr. on July
1, 1966 and he preceded her in death on September 5, 2005.
Upon graduation from Clio High School, she ventured into the beauty world by attending classes at Delmar Beauty School where she started modeling for local businesses and magazines.
She later refined her business skills and went into a career in shipping at Central Transport and Trans America. Years later, she along with her
husband John, started a family business called House Scouts (a local real estate magazine). This launched her passion for real estate where she then obtained her license and began working at Red Carpet Keim in Davison.
Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family, friends and giving back to her community. She volunteered as a speech therapist and worked
with the St. John’s Alter Society, and helped with many other local events and charities.
Shirley gave the gift of music to her family, community and church throughout her lifetime. She loved to play the piano and had a voice of an
angel. She created many life long memories with her family around her piano.
She inspired many through her never-ending creativity, positivity and compassion. She was a strong woman of faith and radiated class, grace,
strength and love to all who knew her. Family was at the core of her being and she welcomed all into her home and into her family.
She leaves to miss her dearly, children, Jeff Gibbs, Valorie Gibbs, Dawn Marra and Kelly (Steve) Ashe; grandchildren, Katie, Forrest, Maureen, Tony, and JohnPaul; many great-grandchildren; brothers, Barth LaMay and Douglas (Elaine) LaMay. She was preceded in death by her sister Betty Rose, brother, Robert LaMay and grandson Aaron Rivette. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Tim and Cindy Rose, Gary and Dee Bartholomew, Dr. Farhan Khan, the caring staff at Karmonos Cancer Institute of Flint and for all of those who offered prayer and support to her and the family throughout her journey.
In her words, “All is as it should be in this moment”.
