CAMPBELL, David Lewis – age 69, of Fontana, California, formerly of Burton, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 8, 2017 while in hospice care at the Jerry L. Pettis VA Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. A Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison; Pastor Richard Williams officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday, April 21, 2017.
He was born February 2, 1948 in the Town of Union, County of Broome, New York to John Paul and Ermalee (Higgins) Campbell.
He attended Bendle High School in Burton, Michigan where he played in the band, excelled in sports, and graduated in 1966. After graduation he briefly studied law at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. David married Connie Schadenberg on October 21, 1967 at Faith Baptist Church in Burton, Michigan; and, worked at General Motors in Flint, Michigan. In late 1967 he entered the United States Army, serving for four years. After his service in Vietnam, he drove truck for Complete Auto Transit and Union Carbide. He later attended Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College in San Dimas, California, graduating with a Master’s Degree in Theology; and obtained his teaching certificate. He taught school at Ambassador Baptist Academy and coached boys high school sports while continuing his studies and raising a family. He was Youth Pastor, and Associate Pastor under Reverend Robert Kasten. He was licensed and ordained at Ambassador Baptist Church in Fontana, California August 14, 1983. He sang Bass with the Harvest Time Quartet; formed the Ambassadors II Quartet; and obtained a Doctorate in Theology from Heritage Baptist University in Akron, Ohio. He later joined The Regents quartet, singing Bass and serving the Lord wherever he was called. David enjoyed his Harley Davidson, cooking, fishing, hunting, baseball, spending time with his grandchildren, reading his Bible, and telling others Jesus loves them. He was a member of the Disabled America Veterans (DAV), and the National Rifle Association (NRA).
David is preceded in death by his father John Paul Campbell, his mother Ermalee (Campbell) Jennings, and his brother Paul Charles Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Connie; his son David (Barbara) Campbell of Fontana, Calif.; grandchildren Tylier (Samantha) Campbell; Kristen Campbell; Hannah Campbell; great-grandson Jagger Campbell; foster daughter Jill A. Richardson of Gainesville, GA; grandsons Dylan and Drew; granddaughters Demi and Deanna; foster son James (Elizabeth) Robertson of Oak Hills, Calif.; granddaughter Kara; grandsons Jordan, Jacob, and Seth; sister Joyce (Clyde) Koontz of Fenton, Mich.; brother Martin L. Campbell of Burton, Mich.; sister-in-law Andralee (Bridges) Proffer of Davison, Mich., sister-in-law Linda Schadenberg of Burton, Mich.; aunt Doris Victor of Missouri ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins .
