Rev. Clifford J. Furness
Age 76 of Corunna passed away Sunday August 4, 2013 at Sparrow Healthcare Center.
A memorial service will be held 11am Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Corunna United Methodist Church with Rev. David Strobe officiating. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm.
At Clifford’s request, his body was donated to Michigan State University to be used for research.
Rev. Furness was born August 23, 1936 in Avoca, Michigan, the son of Melford and Marie (Bubel) Furness. He graduated from Port Huron (MI) High School, Owosso Bible College, Adrian College and Candler School of Theology, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. During his seminary years he served at Columbia Drive and Milstead United Methodist Churches. He was ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church in 1971. All churches he served after ordination were on the Flint District (now Crossroads District) of the Detroit Annual Conference. Churches he served were: Northwest Venice and Oakley, Juddville and New Lothrop; and Lake Fenton United Methodist Churches. Clifford married Jerie Hebner on July 12, 1957 in Port Huron at Griswold Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife Jerie; daughters Myrna (Drew) Spencer of Sebring, Florida and Elaine (Dean) Tobey of Midland, Michigan; grandchildren Jordan and Jama Tobey and Rebecca Spencer.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Harold Furness and sister Armetta Samson.
