O’Connor, Richard of Flushing, age 89, died Monday, January 28, 2019, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Anthony Brooks will officiate. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Saturday at the church until the time of the Mass. A scripture service will be 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home followed by a Knights of Columbus memorial service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on August 13, 1929, the son of George and Margaret (O’Connor) Older. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. Richard married Dolores Culhane on July 24, 1952, at St, Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Flint. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2005. He was employed by C & O Railroad for 44 years. Richard was a member of the American Legion, Post 342 and the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member at St. Robert Catholic Church where he served as an usher for many years. In his spare time, Richard enjoyed fishing, hunting, going to auctions and collecting coins. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Richard is survived by his children, Bryce and wife Sally Coffer, Patrick O’Connor, Christine Carpenter, Mark and wife Lesli O’Connor, Deborah O’Connor, Pauline O’Connor; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley Tremain, Marie Tynes, Bernie Older; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard; daughter, Michelle; granddaughter, Jessica; and grandson, Ryan.
