Matilda Katherine (Spindler) Belanger of Birch Run/Clio/Frankenmuth, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2024, just two days before her 90th birthday.
Matilda was born in her family home in Freeland, Michigan, graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School in 1952, and married Bernard C. Belanger in 1957. They had four children. Matilda was a longtime member of St. Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio. Matilda was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Spindler, her brothers, Albert and John Spindler, her former husband, Bernard Belanger, and nephews John, Kevin and Joey Spindler. Matilda is survived by her children and their spouses, including Darrel (Sharon) Belanger of Birch Run, JoAnn (Mike) Mudgett of Belmont, MI, Kathy Jo (John) Loraas of Savage, MN, and Mary Jo (Joe) Walentovic of Casco, MI. Matilda also is survived by her brother Frank Spindler, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Our mother (also known as Tillie by others) was extremely proud of her German heritage. She was a very hard worker and had a fun sense of humor. She was known for her passionate opinions and always stood up for what she believed in. She had fun little quips such as “The Thing of It Is” before starting a conversation and “Oh Gee Whiz” at the end!!!
