Passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Bavarian Comfort Care of Bridgeport at the age of 82 years. Vernon was born in Flint, MI on June 26, 1934 to the late Norris and Viola Burkitt. Vernon served in the US Army from 1957 to 1959. Vernon was employed by Chevrolet Metal Fabricating as an electrician until his retirement in 1992. He married Diana Billmeier at Our Savior Lutheran Church on May 16, 1959, she predeceased him on April 22, 2014. He was a member of St. Lorenz Lutheran Church.
Vernon is survived by: a son Mark (Kathy) Burkitt of Reese, MI; a daughter Beth (Jeff) Kribs of Frankenmuth, MI; grandchildren Adam and Joshua Burkitt and Emma Kribs; sister Marion Graves; sister-in-law Marlene (Bill) Lippard, and nieces and nephews.
Vernon’s family wishes to express a special thank you to the staff of Bavarian Comfort Care and Hospice caregiver Carleen who treated him like family.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Kaiser will officiate with burial in Flint Memorial Park. Vernon’s family will receive visitors at the Cederberg Funeral Home of Frankenmuth, 590 N. Franklin St. on Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. and at church on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Lorenz Lutheran Church Beautification Committee, Alzheimer’s Association, or charity of donor’s choice.
