KERR, Alan M. – Of Clio, age 79, died Friday, May 27, 2016 at McLaren-Flint
Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Jimm White officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
The family will sit Shiva from 7-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday from 12-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Kerr household.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Thetford Township Police Department for firearms and tactical training.
Alan was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 8, 1937, the son of the late Yitzhak and Pearl (Rosenthal) Kerr.
He served his country in the U.S. Army.
On July 17, 1966 he married Eileen Wisniewski in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.
Alan worked as a Reserve Officer at Thetford Township, worked for Kent County and Plainwell Police Department and was a Certified Police Officer. He previously worked for Lane Bryant and owned AM Kerr Clothing Store and Just Children.
He was an avid reader, hunter and life member of the NRA.
Alan was an avid weightlifter, starting at the early age of 13. He joined his beloved YMCA downtown in 1977 and won the Weightlifting Championship for his age group in 1999.
Surviving are wife, Eileen Kerr;
son, Jason and wife Annemari Kerr;
daughter, Jennifer and husband Mario Menocal;
grandchildren, Kennedy, Tristan, Nadia and Max;
sister-in-law, Johann and husband Robert Ostman;
niece, Laura Bedford;
nephews, Bert Silverstein, Steve Ostrow and Marcus Ostrow.
He was preceded in death by brother, Bertram Kerr; sisters, Evelyn Silverstein, Marcia Ostrow and Bertha Rodin.
