Strong, Paul A. of Flushing, age 76, died Monday, May 29, 2017. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2017, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Close will officiate. Cremation will follow the service. Visitation will be 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice or the Genesee County Humane Society.
Paul was born on January 23, 1941, and grew up on a farm in Belle River, Ontario, Canada, the son of Adrian and Kathleen (Haggerty) Strong. He married Carole Ann Hergott in 1965 and she preceded him in death in 1986. He married Bente (Miller) Niergarth on April 3, 1993. Paul graduated from the University of Guelf in Ontario, Canada with his degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He worked in Flint for several years as a Veterinarian before he and his partner, Graham Steele opened their own practice, Valley Animal Hospital in Flint in 1976. He retired in 2007, after 47 years in practice. Paul enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and tending to his homestead. His lifelong passion and commitment to Veterinary Medicine were routinely highlighted by his peers in the profession. His care for the small creatures that fill our lives extended beyond his practice to create a lifelong network of clients and friendships. He will be remembered for his wisdom, quick wit, sense of humor and his love of family.
Paul is survived by his wife, Bente; sons, Scott and wife Monique Strong, Todd Strong, Sean and wife Kristen Strong; step-children, David and wife Sheryl Niergarth, Ann and husband Tom Woldt, Melissa and husband Casey Killingbeck, Susan and husband Paul Stravato; grandchildren, Christina, Molly, Harper, Jack, Kealin, Liam, Payton, Caroline, Eila, Leo, Ava; great-grandson, Everett; brother, Jack and wife Helen Strong; sister, Anne and husband Ed Solomon; and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William Strong and sister, Ellen Butler. |
