MITCHELL, Benjamin J. - Of Howell, formerly of Flushing and Gladwin, age 80, died Saturday, October 26, 2013 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 5pm Wednesday, October 30, 2013
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Joel Nagel officiating.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Contribution may be made to the Great Lakes Hospice.
Visitation 1pm Wednesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Benjamin was born in Poplar Bluff, Missouri on February 27, 1933, and was a resident of Flushing most of his life. On February 20, 1954, he married Thelma Gorzenski. Benjamin was employed at Chevrolet Manufacturing for 34 years, retiring in 1986 and was a member of UAW Local #659. He was Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 115 in Flushing for many years. Benjamin was also the Secord Township Supervisor for 4 years and was a member of the Tittabawassee River Task Force. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors.
Surviving are wife, Thelma;
sons, James (Vicki), Joseph (Diana) and Steven (Karen);
grandchildren, Eric (Erin), Jerrod, Crista (Doug) Reaves and Jaime;
great-grandchildren, Cole, Cooper, Alexander, Tucker, Ella, Annabel and Charlotte;
brothers, James Lavern (Leora), Donald (Veryl) and Dennis (Sheri);
several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Sylvia, brother, Roy Lee and sisters, Margie and Joyce.
