HEMPSTEAD, Michael E. – of Davison, age 68, passed away November 11, 2012 at Genesys Health Park. A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison, MI 48423. Burial will follow in Davison Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday. The family has requested no flowers. Rather, that donations be made to the Autism Society of Genesee County, P. O. Box 217, Grand Blanc, MI 48480 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Mike was born in Lansing on August 26, 1944, the son of Max and Margaret (Mastic) Hempstead. He married Barbara Olson. Mike proudly served his country with the U. S. Marines. He was a member of the Millington Bulldog Riders and the American Motorcycle Association. Mike retired from AC/Delphi in 2002 with 34 years of service.
Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Barbara; daughter, Adrienne (Larry) Hanson; son, Scott Hempstead; grandchildren, Lars Hanson, Emma and Cayden Hempstead; mother, Margaret Hempstead and sisters, Maureen (Bill) Craddick, Sue (Al) Hill and Elaine (Fred) Medich. He was preceded in death by his father, Max Hempstead. Mike’s family gives a special thanks to Dr. Joyce Fahrner and her staff; Dr. Christie Samuels and her staff and to the wonderful, compassionate nurses, nurse assistants and housekeeping staff at Genesys Hospital for their tender care and concern for Mike during his battle. You were all so appreciated as you helped the family through this difficult time with much kindness. You are all a tribute to your profession.
