SOCKOW, Earl L., Sr. - Age 71, of Byron, died Thursday, August 30, 2012. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Sharp Funeral Home, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, with Pastor Chris Cramer officiating. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday and Monday from 1-4 and 6-9 PM. A Fraternal Order of Eagles Memorial Service will at the funeral home 7:00 PM Monday. Those desiring may make contributions to the Earl L. Sockow, Sr. Memorial Fund. Earl was born March 15, 1941 in Detroit, the son of Melvin and Virginia Faye (Hillaker) Sockow. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Navy. He married Shirley G. Brady April 1, 1972. Earl had been employed by Vassar Manufacturing and was a former Iron Worker, Local 25. He was a 40 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also was a member of the Durand V.F.W. Surviving are: his wife of 45 years, Shirley; 8 children, Scott (Faryl) Brady, Sheila Sockow, Traci Raymond, Melinda (Pat) Murphy, Earl Sockow, Jr, Robin Hartman, Joe Brady and Tanya Carritti; 25 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Jim) Skinner; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, April Forys; and 2 sons-in-law, David Hartman and David Raymond.
