SHUMAKER, Betty J. – Resident of Abbey Park in Grand Blanc, age
87, passed away on Christmas Eve.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Hal Phillips and Pastor Don Phillips officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation 2-7 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Halsey United Methodist Church of Grand Blanc.
Betty was born in Flint, Michigan on January 7, 1928, daughter of the late Frank and Jennie Sloan.
She attended Grand Blanc schools and graduated from high school in 1946.
She married James Shumaker on April 5, 1947 in Flint.
They enjoyed golf, bowling and playing cards with family and friends.
She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
Betty retired from General Motors in 1984, after 31 years of employment.
She was a member of Halsey United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Ann and husband Don of Grand Blanc,
Nancy and husband Richard of Annapolis, Maryland,
Susan Edwards and partner, Greg Sander of Linden.
Betty was blessed with six grandchildren, Jeff and wife Dennile of South Lyon,
Kelly and husband Chris of Bloomfield Hills,
Allison and husband Jason of Phoenix, Maryland,
Ryan and wife April of Frederick, Maryland,
Katy of Grand Blanc,
Cody and wife Rachel of Newport News, Virginia;
11 great-grandchildren;
siblings, Genevieve, Joyce, Rosemary and Jimmy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James and sister, Joanne.
