WENZEL, Robert M. - Of Flint, age 84, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Genesys Regional Medical Center.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 12 Noon, Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Steve Anderson officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery. A Military Service will be conducted under the auspices of VFW Post #3087 Honor Guard.
Visitation 4-8pm Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Tuesday evening at the funeral home. A Knights of Columbus Service will be conducted after the Rosary by KOC 10170. Mr. Wenzel will be at the church 11am Wednesday until the time of the Mass.
Robert was born in Flint on January 22, 1929, the son of Joseph and Lillian Wenzel, and was a resident of the Flint area all of his life. He married Kathleen Lewis on May 20, 1950 and she preceded him in death on November 27, 2004. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10170. Mr. Wenzel was employed by General Motors "Tank Plant" for 38 years, retiring in 1988.
Surviving are daughters, Mary Hosie of Indiana and Laura and husband Scott Griffin of Clio;
7 Grandchildren; 13 Great-grandchildren;
Brother, Emery of Flint;
Many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Gina Flannery; his grandson, Tommy Flannery; his parents; brothers, Jody, John and Walter; and sisters, Helen Wenzel and Betty Wallace.
