HOPKINS, Martha Baker - Of Flint, age 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 14, 2019.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Thursday, December 19, 2019 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint,
Father Thomas Firestone officiating.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation 4-8pm Wednesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 7pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 9am Thursday at church until the time of the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Martha was born in Flint on June 28, 1933, the daughter of Bryan H. Baker Sr. and Grace (Callahan) Baker. She was a lifelong resident of Flint. Martha graduated from St. Matthew High School, Class of 1951, and was a parishioner for over 80 years. She graduated from the University of Michigan, Class of 1955 with a degree in Elementary Education. Martha was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She taught in the Flint Schools for over 30 years, beginning at Potter Elementary and retiring from Summerfield Elementary. Martha was member of Flint Junior League, as well as The Flint Golf Club. She loved traveling, being with her family and time spent at her cottage. Martha married Harry H. Hopkins in 1986 and he preceded her in death in 2009.
Left to cherish her memory are sister, Mary Ellen Fisher;
Nieces and nephews, Mary Grace (Ken) Butts, John B. (Kim) Fisher, Martha (Curt) Lichty, Jane (Patrick) Hogan, Bryan (Kim) Baker III, Frank (Sue) Baker, Martha Baker, Susan Baker, Debra Baker, and Judy (Paul) Houle;
Her husband’s children, Martha (Bob) Romanowski, Carole Hopkins (Andrew) Fargason and Irma Hopkins.
She was a second Mom to us all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Bryan H. Baker Jr., nephew, John Baker, niece, Elizabeth Baker Porte and step-son, David Hopkins.
