Hoyle, Gerald Wallace “Jerry” of Flushing, age 89, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at his home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday. A memorial service under the auspices of Flushing Moose Lodge #1437 will be 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Flushing Moose Lodge-Parking Lot Paving Project, “No More Pothole's.”
Jerry was born in Winthrop, Iowa, on December 16, 1925, the son of John Wallace and Marjorie Ellen (McFarland) Hoyle and moved to the Flint area as a young boy. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, enlisting at just 16 years old. Jerry was stationed in Pearl Harbor a year after the attack in 1941. After the war ended, he returned to Flint and began working in telecommunications where he would finish his career with Western Electric. He married Dora Leonard on April 8, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Together, they enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Mexico. She preceded him in death on October 30, 1999.
Jerry was a member of the American Legion, Order of the Foresters, VFW and the Masons, but his home away from home was the Flushing Moose Lodge and the members there were his extended family and a part of his daily life until the end. Jerry also enjoyed bowling and golf.
He is survived by his children, John Hoyle, Dana Hoyle MacLellan; grandchildren, Maggie, Angus, and John MacLellan; sisters, Joann Fischer and Marge Chriest. Jerry was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey. |
