MEDLYN, LESLIE ROBERT “BOB”
Of Swartz Creek, age 87, died Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital.
Funeral service will be held 4pm Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Dan Bowman officiating.
Visitation 2-6pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Contributions can be directed to the Swartz Creek Community Church.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Bob was born in Flint, Michigan on June 30, 1937, the son of Leslie and Lillian Medlyn.
He found his true love when he married Arlene Smith on April 15, 1982. He was a 1955 graduate of Flint Central High School and received a Bachelor's Degree from Ferris State University in 1967.
Mr. Medlyn was employed by General Motors at Chevrolet Flint Assembly, AC Spark Plug Division, GM Corporation, GM Truck & Coach, SPO, and EDS for 39 years, retiring in May 1996. Since retiring, he dedicated himself to Swartz Creek Community Church; greeting, attending Sunday School, men’s coffee hour, and making and selling pasties. He also volunteered for the Metro Township Police Department.
Bob was a jokester, always smiling, and a lover of life. He was always fair and great role model. What Bob loved most was time with family, especially his grandchildren, who called him “Papa”. Our family motto “Love One Another” perpetuated throughout the entire family. Bob enjoyed traveling, two of his favorite places were up north near the Petoskey and also Hilton Head Island, SC.
He was an avid golfer and fisherman. Lastly, he was dedicated to his investment clubs and most importantly attending Michigan football games.
Surviving are children, Jill, Kirk, Paul and wife Wendy; step-children, Dan and wife Linda, Laura and husband Greg, Tim and wife Pamela, and Jim and wife Jessica; grandchildren, Aaron, Andrea, Andrew, Candace, Charlie, Emma, Megan, Rachel, Sam and Sara; five great grandchildren, sisters, Maurine Hendershott and Elaine Woods and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, and sister, Janeann Snell.
