FORTINO, Robert D. “Bob” - Age 90, of Swartz Creek, died December 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving wife and family in his home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Fr. Nate Sokol officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday and Monday, December 8 and 9, from 1-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek, and Tuesday from 10:00 AM until mass at the church. A rosary will be prayed 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Bob was born August 12, 1923 in Swartz Creek, the son of Paul and Mary (Spaniola) Fortino. He was a graduate of Mary Crapo High School in Swartz Creek. He married Dorothy M. Marrah May 11, 1946 in Owosso. Continuing the tradition started by his parents in 1916, Bob dedicated his life to serving the community at Fortino’s Food Market that his children continue today. He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters and formerly served on the Swartz Creek DDA Board.
Surviving are: his wife, Dorothy, of 67 years; 7 children: Paul (Judith) Fortino of Swartz Creek, Teresa O’Brien of Swartz Creek, Mary Ann (Victor) Dipzinski of Clio, Robert Thomas Fortino of Canton, OH, David M. (Mary) Fortino of Swartz Creek, James Fortino of Swartz Creek, and Mark Fortino of Swartz Creek; 10 grandchildren: Maria Fortino, Alicia (Christopher) Marting, Melissa Fortino, Angela Fortino, Stephanie Fortino, Patrick O’Brien, Sara Dipzinski, Victor Dipzinski, Allison Fortino, and Nicholas Fortino; 2 great-grandchildren: Brandon Marting and Renee Marting; brother, Lawrence (Helen) Fortino of Lansing; 2 sisters, Rita Fortino of Swartz Creek and Margaret Ann (Joe) Stratton of Argentine; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son in 1949, and granddaughter, Elizabeth Fortino.
