TURNER, James Harold, 83, of Genesee Township went Home to God from his residence on Sunday, October 20, 2013.Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 Hill Road, Grand Blanc on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 4-8 PM and on Monday, Oct.28 from 10AM until time of service at 11AM. Committal at Great Lakes National Cemetery will immediately follow the service, with officiating by Chaplain Gene Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family would wish you to consider donations to the McLaren Hospice, Salvation Army or the charity of your choice. Jim was born Sept. 4, 1930 in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina, the son of Lloyd L. and Ada Sue (McNeill) Turner. Ada Sue died on Jim’s 14th birthday. Hazel and Merle Wiles took Jim into their home and hearts as Lloyd was gone often on his railroad job. On his 18th birthday, Jim reported for duty with the 3rd Army. When the Korean War started, he was sent there, but was assigned to the 5th Air Force. His unit received the Presidential Unit Citation. After the war, Jim moved to Flint and worked for GM’s AC Spark Plug for 35 years, retiring in 1988. In 1962, he married Sandra Kimsel. Jim enjoyed camping, boating, fishing and classic cars. His greatest joy was time with his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Sandra and children; David (Jane Filkin McMillan, Flushing) Turner, Flint; Terri (Scott) Lipovsky, Durand; Brian (Christine) Turner, Villa Rica, GA. ; Grandchildren Krista and John Bloomfield and Shelby Turner; many dear friends. Many thanks to family and friends for their treasured prayers and support and to McLaren Hospice personnel and the Brown Funeral Home. Jim’s greatest achievement was as a husband, father and grandpa. His wonderful sense of humor will live on in his children. He lived his life for others. He now rests in the arms of God.
