ROACH, Timothy Robert “T.R.” - Of Flint, age 70, died peacefully Monday, February 18, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30am Friday, February 22, 2019 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint,
Father Thomas Firestone officiating.
The family will receive visitors 12-2pm and 4-7pm Thursday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed at 7pm Thursday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Roach will lie in state from 9:30am Friday at church until the time of the service.
Tim was born in Flint on February 24, 1948. He served in the United States Navy as a medic in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1967, when he was honorably discharged. In 1973, he married Roxanne Grossi, who survives him. Together they operated several different businesses in the Flint area including Heddy’s Marker and Timothy’s Pub. Roxanne was his devoted lifetime partner and she stood by him through good times and bad. Tim had one daughter, Katie, a son-in-law, Chad Wing and one granddaughter, Sofia Grace, for whom he had tremendous love. He is also survived by siblings, Patsy (Jerry) Brown, Kathleen Roach and Joseph (Eva) Roach and one aunt, Barbara Sokolowski, brother-in-law, Rod Grossi and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tim served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Princeton in the South China Sea. He served both as a medic at sea and while in country during the Vietnam War.
Tim enjoyed and cherished his many faithful friends. Tim was very proud of his Irish Catholic heritage. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Knights of Columbus, Teamsters Local #332 and the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Roach and brother, Mike.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions in Tim’s name may be made to Catholic Charities of Genesee County or the Humane Society of Genesee County.
