FABIAN, Richard P. “Dick” – of Birch Run, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 26, 2016 at his residence. He was 81 years of age.

Dick was born September 2, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Victor M. and Grace E. (Kelly) Fabian. He graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1952 and later attended the University of Detroit. Dick married Gail Soderman January 13, 1973 in Saginaw, Michigan. Mr. Fabian served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy as a special forces "spotter" and as a radio and Morse code operator on four different destroyers. He was a news anchor and meteorologist for WNEM-TV for 20 years before retiring in 1997. Prior to that he had served as a radio disc jockey for WKNX - AM radio and as the news director at WEYI - TV 25. Dick was a member of Saints Francis and Clare Catholic Parish (formerly Sacred Heart Church) in Birch Run where he served on the parish council. He enjoyed, photography, woodworking and spending time outdoors. Dick loved music and was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. He left a legacy of Love for his family.

Left to cherish his memory are: Wife, Gail Fabian of Birch Run; Children: Michael (Cheryl) Fabian, Kathleen (Phil) Naegele and Cheryl (Clint) Hemingway; 8 grandchildren: Carrie Holt, Lynsey Mandela, Shauna Beatty, Mitch, Jacob, Megan and Sean Naegele, Justin Marlette; 12 great grandchildren; Brother, Rev. Jack Fabian, Joe (Mary Ann) Fabian, James (Nancy) Fabian; Sisters: Cynthia (Gordon) Whitten, Jane (Dick) Rosemont; Brothers in law: Vern (Ruthann) Soderman and Mike (Michele) Soderman; Sister in law, Virginia Soderman; Many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded by his brothers: Benedict and Edward; Sister, JoAnn; Father in law, Einar Soderman; Mother in law, Rosemary Soderman and brother in law, Ted Soderman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Parish. Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara and Rev. Jack Fabian co-officiating. Private burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. Family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 1PM-8PM and Wednesday from 10AM until the time of Mass. A scripture service will be held at 7PM Tuesday evening at the church. Contributions may be made to Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Parish, Make a Wish Foundation or the USS Edson.
