HINE-WELCHER, Janet M. - Age 94, of Flushing, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Masonic Pathways Care Center in Alma, MI. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 6 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM and Thursday, September 7, 11AM-1PM. Funeral services will be held 1PM Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Linden. Janet was born August 11, 1923 in Middleville, Michigan, the only child of the late Roy Melvin and Esther M. (Feeley) Hine. She married Dr. Floyd Welcher in Toledo, Ohio on July 2, 1985 and he preceded her in death on December 21, 2005. Janet graduated from Michigan Normal University and started her long teaching career in Grand Blanc on September 5, 1949 as an elementary teacher. During her career, Janet mainly taught at Brendel Elementary School, teaching kindergarten and second grade. She retired in June of 1988 to their beautiful cottage near Onaway with her husband. They both enjoyed their beautiful Indian art, including an authentic totem pole. She was a collector of beautiful jewelry, native American Indian and oriental art. Janet was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Michigan, 175 Linden Rd., Linden, MI. Surviving are: dear step- daughter, Teresa Welcher of Lansing; and many friends including her best friend, Darline Alderson; cousins, Jeff Lowry of Los Angeles, CA, David Owen of Lansing, MI, William Owen of Coldwater, MI, Sherry Clough of Eaton Rapids, MI., and Sharon Williams of Apache Junction, AZ.; She held dear her special friends/caregivers, Michelle O'Donnell and Thomas Roke. Special thanks to all the caregivers at Angels Touch of Davison and the Masonic Pathways Care Center of Alma for their wonderful care of Janet. This fund provides monies for nursing home residents that have no extra money for the little things that make life more enjoyable.
