KETZLER, David C. -- Age 86, of Flint Township, went to his Kiwanis meeting in Heaven on July 9, 2015.
Services will be held 6 PM Thursday, August 6 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek, Fr. Tom Firestone officiating. Visitation will be held 3-8 PM Wednesday, August 5 with a 7 PM VFW Memorial services under the Auspices of the Linden VFW Post; and 1 PM until the 6 PM service time on Thursday, August 6. Private committal services at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Swartz Creek Kiwanis to a scholarship fund in his memory.
David was born October 16, 1928 in Flint the son of L. Curtis Ketzler and Dorothy Claire (Smith) Ketzler. He was a graduate of Linden High School and Michigan State University. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII as an under water Demolition Specialist (now the Navy Seals) and then a member of the Linden VFW. He was a longtime devoted member of the Swartz Creek Kiwanis, and the Arrowhead Pipe Club. Some of his many accomplishments in the Swartz Creek community include The Barn (teen hangout), he helped design the Elms Road Park, as well as the park at Miller and Morrish Roads, and he served on the Board of Directors for the Swartz Creek Amphitheater at its start.
Surviving are: 2 children, Tonya Ketzler of Swartz Creek, Joseph (Anne) Ketzler of Grand Blanc; 2 grandchildren, Curtis Ketzler, Rebecca (Brian)Jones; 2 great grandchildren, David Curtis Jones, Colt Jackson Jones; brothers, Peter, Herbert, and Mike; sister, Martha.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard; and wife, Peggy on April 15, 2010.
