THORNTON, Clyde R. - age 75, of Fenton, died peacefully with his children by his side, Tuesday, October 2, 2018. Services will be held 3 PM Sunday, October 7 at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, preceding the service will be a Fenton F.O.E. memorial service. Chaplain Hank Messing officiating. Visitation will be 1-3 PM Sunday. Interment will be 10 AM Monday, October 8 at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. The family is asking in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Flint McLaren Hospice.
Clyde was born January 19, 1943, in Fenton, the son of Roy William and Helen Lucille (Jarvis) Thornton. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Clyde retired from Consumers Energy where he worked as a Lineman and Substation Operator. He was a member of the Fenton VFW and the Fenton Eagles. One of Clyde’s favorite passions was hockey, and in his younger days he played in the men's league at the IMA Sports Arena in Flint. He was also an inspiring artist. Clyde could often be seen serving coffee and assisting patron's at the Exit 80 gas station in Fenton for over 27 years.
Surviving are: his children, Kristina (Gary) Cican, Kathleen (David) Helton, Andrew (Crystal) Thornton; grandchildren, Ryan, David, Whitney, Olivia, Grady; great-granddaughter, Sydney; siblings, Violet, Dave, Helen, Vera; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his parents; son, Paul Thornton; and siblings, Marge, Chuck, and Mary Sue.
