TOTTEN, Thomas M. – of Birch Run, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Saints Francis and Clare Parish, 12157 Church St., in Birch Run. Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 1PM until 8PM and Saturday from 9:30AM until the time of Mass at 10AM. A Knights of Columbus Rosary will be held at 3PM Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Saints Francis and Clare Parish, the Knights of Columbus Council # 7233 or the Birch Run Firefighters.
Tom was born February 28, 1930 in Birch Run, Michigan to Mora and Viola (Salois) Totten. He married Kathleen A. Morse on September 13, 1952. Tom owned and operated Totten Service for over 40 years. He also founded Totten Tire. Tom was very involved in his church and community. He was a lifelong member of Saints Francis and Clare Parish. Tom served on various committees. He was a member of the Birch Run Fire Department for over 50 years - two of those years served as chief. He also served on the Birch Run Township Board, and the Board of Review and Planning Commission. Tom was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7233 and Fourth Degree Knight of Assembly #2365. He enjoyed golf and vacationing on Lake Huron at the family cottage. Tom enjoyed spending time with his family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Surviving are: Wife of 66 years, Kathleen Totten; Children: James (Beverly) Totten of Birch Run, Karen (Michael Burns) Totten of Ann Arbor, Julie Bauer of Midland, Richard (Donna) Totten of Thurmont, Maryland, Andrew (Kristie) Totten of Birch Run; Grandchilden: Brady (Tara) Totten, Jamie (Chris) Darrow, Sarah (Patrick) Baker, Thomas (Jenna) Bauer, Alexander (Linnea Peterson-Bunker) Burns, Noah Burns, Kathleen Totten, Nathanial Totten, Sarah Totten, and Emma Totten; Great grandchildren: Emerson, Easton, Christopher, Caroline, Catherine, Graham, and Grant; Sister, Patricia Stainforth of Tawas City; Many nieces and nephews. Tom was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas Mora Totten Jr., and brother in law, Charles Stainforth.
