James Robert Eldred, age 84, of Goodyear, AZ departed this life Friday, May 29, 2020. James was born June 30, 1935 in Flint, MI the son of Leslie and Marie Eldred.
Jim served in the U.S. Army. He married Florence Louise Maloney on October 6, 1967 and resided in Clio MI. Jim & Louise retired from GM and relocated on the beautiful AuSable River, their ‘Golden Pond’ in Sid Town, Oscoda MI. He owned Eldie’s Fishing Tackle & Bait for several years. They moved to Arizona in 2016.
Jim is survived by his sons Marcus Maloney (Lisa) and Michael Maloney (Michelle) both of Goodyear AZ, and daughter Jamie Halstead (Ron) of Flint, MI. He delighted in all his grandchildren – the phone calls, the cookies, the visits, the jokes - Michelle, Danielle, Megan, Hailey, Natasha (Justin), Natalie (Jon), Lindsey, Eric, Zack, Heather, Justin, Nick, Drew, eight great grandchildren and lifelong special friend Bill Clement. His children & grandchildren will always remember his magic finger trick, hobo pies, campfires, his red truck, woodworking and carving, his prayers of protection over them and his comment of “tastes like more”, and “I buy you books, I buy you books.”
Jim was preceded in death by ‘his bride’ Louise, parents, brother Clarence and sister Rita Step. Cremation has taken place in Goodyear, AZ.
Jim had a great love of the river. Known as ‘Eldie’ and ‘Bluegill’ to many, he loved life in Sid Town sharing time with special neighbors, hunting and spending lots of ‘time on the water.’
We will celebrate his life reminiscing about the man known as ‘Eldie,’ a hero to many. Until we meet again…..
