Age 86, Flint, our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather was taken home to Glory to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 5, 2019, at his residence, after a courageous two-year battle with lung cancer. A native of Flint, Michigan, Ted was born on May 10, 1933 to Helen Wright (Meseraull) and Theodore D. Wright, Sr. and raised by his mother and stepfather Adrian Meseraull (all deceased). He graduated in 1952 from Central High School in Flint, where he met the love of his life, his wife and our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Shirley A. Wright. During high school he served in the US Marine Corps Reserves and enlisted in active service immediately after graduation. Upon Shirley’s graduation from Central High School they were married on June 15, 1953. Together they lived in California while Ted was serving in the US Marine Corps and afterward returned to spend the remainder of their married life in Flint, where they raised their four children (Karl, Mark (deceased), Scott and Tanya) and watched their grandchildren grow up until Shirley was called to heaven on January 22, 2012. A child of the depression, Dad was extremely hardworking and proud of his years in the US Marine Corps, at Hamady Bros. and finally at Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant in Flint where he retired from in 1997. A Marine for life he was a selfless, loving, decent, honest, devoted and extremely generous man, who loved his God, family, friends and country. Incredibly smart and well read, he will be remembered for his house full of books, his love of Westerns and War movies and documentaries, his sense of humor and his charitable giving spirit. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior as a young father and he is now in Heaven with his sweetheart Shirley and his son Mark. He fought a courageous battle with lung cancer and never complained but only thought of others during his illness. His first deep breath in two years was in Heaven and we are so thankful to our precious Lord that he is no longer struggling and is reunited with his loved ones. He is survived by his children Karl (Anita) Wright, Scott (Belinda) Wright and Tanya Wright; grandchildren Kimberly Wright, Karl Wright, II, Marissa Wright, Rachel (Kyle) Wermers and Sarah (Jeremy) Dobes; and great grandchildren Ariel Wermers, Blake Wermers, Maya Wermers, Ladd Wermers and Piper Dobes. Dad specifically requested throughout his life that he did not want a viewing or service, instead he wanted his family and friends to go on and live a joyful life and we will be honoring his wishes. In lieu of flowers donations may (if desired) be made in Ted’s name to the US Marine Corps Toys for Tots at www.toysfortots.org or the Wounded Warrior Project at https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
