GIELDA, Mark F. – of Burt, MI, age 63, was given eternal life after a hard fought 10 year battle with Thyroid Cancer on Saturday, February 15, 2020, surrounded by family at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Thursday, February 20, 2020 at Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Parish in Birch Run, MI. Rev. Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating. Burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Bay City, MI. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio, MI on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 from 2PM until 8PM and at the church on Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. The Knights of Columbus Honor Guard will be present between 6-8PM with a rosary memorial at 7:45PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Parish, Thyroid Cancer Survivors Association, or the Michigan Doodle Rescue.
Mark was born August 21, 1956 in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Sylvester “Bill” and Anne (Wisniewski) Gielda. He attended Bay City All Saints High School and later earned his associate degree from Delta College. Mark married Amy Ridiker on August 12, 1978. He worked in sales for D.D. Reckner in the food broker industry for the past 6 years. Mark was a member of Ss. Francis and Clare Parish and served on the finance board. He was also a member of the Bay City Moose Lodge. Mark enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, golfing, and camping in the Clear Lake / West Branch MI area. He was fondly called “Uncle Buck” by his nieces and nephews. Mark was fun loving and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years Amy Gielda and Sons: William (Erika) Gielda of Fowlerville, MI and Daniel Gielda of Green Bay, WI. He is also survived by his siblings, Sisters: Sue (Jay) Meldrum of Houghton, MI and Karen (Dick) Lauer of Gladwin, MI and Brother: Tom (Peggy) Gielda of Bellaire, MI. He is also survived by Sisters in law: Beth Kurkowski of Webberville, MI, Carolyn (Glenn) Hudson of Mineral, VA, and Debbie Frank of Chelsea, MI; as well as Many nieces and nephews, cousins, and special friends.
