HAMMOND, Winifred L. - Of Burton, age 94, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at her residence surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 6434 Richfield Road, Flint.
Longtime friend, Pastor Jack Dowden officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Foundation Fighting Blindness.
Memorial visitation 3-7pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Memorial visitation 11am Tuesday at church until the time of the service.
Win was born in Flint on June 4, 1921, the daughter of Frieda and Charles Lambert. She grew up in Flint and married Harry Hammond on October 30, 1942. One month later he was drafted and she followed him as he served in World War II, working on base and then in the plant, one of the historic “Rosie the Riveters”. She loved music and was an accomplished piano player. She also sang in the Flint Community Chorus. Win was employed at MCC for many years and worked in the Financial Aid Office. She was a loving and wonderful mother, an avid gardener, and loved to root for the Tigers.
Surviving are 3 children, Carol (Cliff) Lutz, Gerald (Peggy) Hammond, Gary (Debby) Hammond;
grandchildren, Richard, Nancy, Julie, Jamie, Bethany, Michelle, David, and Doug;
great-grandchildren, Delynn, Rachel, Chase, Nathan, Noelle, Ben, Allison, Audrey and Michael;
and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, parents and siblings.
The family wishes to especially thank the devoted caregivers at Genesee Caring Center and Great Lakes Caring team at Lockwood of Burton.
