Peter Stonk, of Swartz Creek, age 79, died Wednesday, September 9, 2020 at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2020 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Swartz Creek. Fr. Louis Ekka will officiate. Burial to follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church, the Knights of Columbus, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Peter was born in New York, New York on June 9, 1941 to Peter and Kathryn (Lebrecht) Stonk. He was a Navy veteran Seabee who served in the Vietnam War. Peter started his career in hotel management in New York. After moving to Florida, he then made a career working for NASA at the Kennedy Space Center. He was involved in his community, whether it be in Michigan or Florida. He became a 3rd & 4th degree in the Knights of Columbus. He belonged to the Men’s Retirement Group of Genesee County and held office with the Elks. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion.
Peter is survived by his sister, Kathryn Lescelius; nieces and nephews, Pat (Nathan) Chase, Donna (Bob) McDonald, and John (Helen) Lescelius; great nieces and nephews, Zachary McDonald, Kaitlyn McDonald, Christopher (Isabella) Chase, Courtney (Donovan) Watza, Chelsea Chase, Michael Lescelius, and Isabelle Lescelius; and great-great- niece, Genevieve Serrano. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Kathryn, and brother-in-law, Roland Lescelius. |
