Frances Thresa (Bocek) Doerr of Flushing, age 94, died Friday, November 1, 2044. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024, at Rossell Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church until the time of the Mass at 11 a.m.
“Fran” was born to Anton and Frances Bocek on November 22, 1929, in Corunna, Michigan. She was the identical twin to her sister, Mary Ann, and had four older brothers Joseph, William, Anthony and Stanley. On October 21, 1950, she married the love of her life, Henry George Doerr. Together they raised three children on their farm in Flushing: Henry (Patricia) Doerr, Andrew (Betty) Doerr, and Paula (Frank) Bishop. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her favorite place to go on vacation was Empire, Michigan where her uncle was once pastor of St. Philip Neri parish and she spent many summers with her sister there. Fran loved working outside, whether on the tractor, lawnmower or keeping her yard neat and tidy. She always had a birthday cake ready for any of her family, and hosted many memorable holiday feasts at her homestead.
As a devoted Catholic and member of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, she taught Catechism to young children for a number of years. She regularly attended weekday Mass and Holy Hour adoration when she was living independently at home. In later years she moved to Union Court Assisted Living in Chesaning.
Her positive attitude, warmth, and deep faith served as a role model to all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
