LONGHINI, Anthony M. “Tony” – of Chesaning, age 79, died Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Maplewoods Manor in Clio. Honoring Tony’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Mass will be celebrated in memory of Tony 11AM Friday, June 8, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church – Maple Grove, 17994 Lincoln Road, New Lothrop. Fr. Joe Miller officiating. Family will receive visitors at the church from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM.
Tony was born September 19, 1938 in Ironwood, Michigan to the late Dominic and Catherine (Viher) Longhini. He graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in 1957. Tony obtained a Bachelors Degree in Education from Northern Michigan University in 1966. In 1969, Tony earned a Master’s Degree in Traffic Safety from Michigan State University. He married Kathleen Russell at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Pinconning on August 12, 1967. Tony was a medic in the United States Navy and served from 1957 until 1961. He retired in 2003 from Montrose Community Schools after 36 years of seniority. Tony was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church – Maple Grove for 51 years. He was also a member and past president of the Chesaning Conservation Club. Tony enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, going on cruises, and traveling to the U.P. and Alaska. Most knew Tony as an extreme outdoorsman, he especially loved hunting and fishing.
Surviving are: Wife of 50 years, Kay; Daughters, Roberta (Greg) Viau and Nicole (Peter) McElroy; Grandchildren: Evan Viau, Monique Viau, and Aiden McElroy; Brothers: John (Greta) Longhini and Dominic (Sandra) Longhini.
