JOSEPH, Robert “Bob” - Of Grand Blanc, age 82, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Avalon Hospice.
Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, May 7, 2013
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Pastor Frank Yount and Reverend Joseph Perra officiating.
Burial in Assyrian Cemetery with a military graveside service under the auspices of VFW Post #822 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Victory Tabernacle, 1497 Pine, Clio, MI 48420.
Visitation 2-8pm Sunday, 11am-8pm Monday and 10am Tuesday until the time of the service at the Swartz Funeral Home.
Robert was born in Owosso, MI on February 9, 1931, the son of the late Benjamin and Betty (Benjamin) Joseph. Bob graduated from Northern High School (and The School of Hard Knocks), Class of 1949. He married Martha Rose Simon on July 2, 1955 in Flint and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2012.
Bob served in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division from 1952-1954. Bob worked at Buick Motor Plant #6, was Manager at Schuster Equipment and owned and operated Joseph Equipment Inc.
Bob was also a charter member of Genesee Gear Grinders Club, President of the Assyrian American Club of Flint, past Vice President of the Assyrian National Association and National Midwest Director. Bob was on the Board of Directors of Faith Tabernacle Church and on the Board of the International Institute of Flint. He was also on the Grand Blanc Township Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals for 17 years and was a past member of the Masonic Genesee Lodge #174 F.&A.M.
Bob was a present member of Victory Tabernacle in Clio. Bob’s hobbies included restoring classic cars, collecting models of many types like construction toys and memorabilia. Bob loved camping and taking the motor home to Florida. He loved his family very much and was the best husband, father, brother and grandfather in the world. Bob was kind to everyone.
Bob always said "It was better to be a has beener than a never waser." Bob loved people and was a mentor to many.
Surviving are children, Marti Ann Joseph, Susan and husband Alex Akins, Noonie and husband David Chapple, Jim and wife Debbi, and Robert Jr. and wife Deborah;
15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren;
brothers, William and David Joseph; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister-in-law, Erma Joseph.
