McWHERTER, Robert L. – of Montrose, age 79, died Sunday, February 3, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose. Rev. Duane Vickerman officiating. Burial will be in Montrose Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1-8PM and on Thursday from 11AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family.
Bob was born October 7, 1933 in Dunklin County, Missouri to the late Robert and Rosa Belle (Shrum) McWherter. He served as Montrose Township Supervisor for 2 terms, was the Montrose Chief of Police, owned and operated Bob’s Towing. He was a truck driver and a bus driver. He retired from Trinity Industries in TX.
Surviving are: children, Lynn (Ken) Maynard of Montrose, Karen McWherter of Clio, Greg (Amanda) McWherter of Kawkawlin, Raynae Childress of Louisville, KY, Melinda (Dustin) Ponikiewski of Forney, TX; 14 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings, Tommy McWherter of Montrose, Dorris (Jim) Papineau of Naubinway, Melva Beasley of Montrose and Brenda (Tony) Bishop of Montrose; many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by: a son, Ronald “Gary” in 1998; and a sister, Gladys Tallmadge. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paez and the staff of Heartland Hospice.
