SAVOIE, Joan Marie – of Temperance, MI, formerly of Flint, MI, age 87, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2019. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 AM Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 11110 Saginaw Street, Mt. Morris, MI 48458; Rev. Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Interment in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM Friday, November 22, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423 and 10-11 AM Saturday, November 23, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed 7 PM Friday, November 22, 2019 at Allen Funeral Home.
Joan was born in Fiber, MI on June 1, 1932, daughter of the late Edward and Denise (Godin) Savoie. She entered the convent of the sisters of St. Joseph in 1947. In 1972 she took a sabbatical leave to care for her aging parents. She retired from Kearsley School District in Genesee, Michigan after 33 years of service. Joan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, MI. She enjoyed macramé, sewing and traveling. For many years, Joan was a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites. The family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Order. (Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, 2147 Tremainsville Road, Toledo, Ohio 43613)
Joan is survived by 2 sisters, Irene Hindermeier and Theresa Savoie; sister-in-law, Velma (Fernand) Savoie; many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Denise Savoie; 8 siblings, Monique Savoie, Adrien Savoie, Raymond (Barbara) Savoie, Victor (Pandora) Savoie, Romeo (Reva) Savoie, Fernand Savoie, Alphonse (Barbara) Savoie and Claude Savoie; brother-in-law, Ted Hindermeier.
