Trudy (Eltrude) Marie Rasmussen, age 71 of Grand Blanc, passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020 after a difficult, yet graceful battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on November 25, 1948, in East Cleveland, Ohio to parents John and Eltrude (Suhadolnik) Tolar. She grew up in Euclid, Ohio, and attended Bowling Green State University where she earned her BS in Education in 1970. She later earned a Master’s from Michigan State University. She enjoyed a long career teaching biology at Swartz Creek High School where she was beloved and respected by her students and peers and was honored as Swartz Creek High School’s Teacher of the Year twice. She also loved her many years of coaching the Science Olympiad Team there. After retiring in 2004, she cherished her role as grandmother to four grandchildren and was able to pursue multiple hobbies. She was an avid University of Michigan sports fan, golfer, enjoyed sewing, ancestry research, reading, playing games, and world travel. Her world travels included a dream trip to the Galapagos Islands and ended with a visit to her ancestral home of Slovenia. Trudy also deeply cherished her Catholic faith and was a regular at daily Mass with her devoted husband for years. Her wonderful personality and beautiful smile will be missed by all who loved her, especially her husband and children. To them, Trudy was truly a blessing. Trudy is survived by husband, Greg, of nearly 48 years; children: Jennifer (JP) Buckingham and Erik (Lacie) Rasmussen; grandchildren: Camryn and Carter Buckingham, Mackenzie and Jackson Rasmussen; twin brothers: John (Joy) Tolar and James (Terry) Tolar; one niece and five nephews. She was preceded in death by both parents. Special thanks to Merlin and Sharon Bellinger who were always there for her and to Heartland Hospice and the Holy Family Catholic Church clergy, staff, and parishioners. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, June 19, 2020 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc. Father Peter Lawrence celebrating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 from 12-4pm at Hill Funeral Home, 11723 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc, and again on Friday, one hour prior to Mass, and beginning at 10am. A Rosary Service will be prayed at 7pm on Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Flint. In lieu of flowers, those desiring to make a memorial contribution may do so to Swartz Creek High School c/o Science Olympiad Team (1 Dragon Drive, Swartz Creek, MI 48473) or to Holy Family Catholic School. |
