LESLIE, Bienvenida (Simon) – of Flint, MI, age 72, passed away June 21, 2018 at American House North Senior Living. Per Bienvenida, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. Robert Catholic Church, 310 N. Cherry St., Flushing, MI 48433; Fr. Anthony Brooks celebrant. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Friday at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to help with Benie’s funeral expenses, Medical Team Hospice Music Therapy Department or American House Recreational Program.
Bienvenida Simon Leslie was born January 4, 1946 in San Nicolas, Philippines, daughter of Teofilo Simon and Delores Tolentino. She graduated as an RN from Baguio General Hospital in 1968. Benie came to the U.S. in 1973, first working at Clara Barton, then Flint General where she met the love of her life, Richard Leslie. They were married from September 16, 1987 until his passing on March 7, 2002. She then worked at Hurley Medical Center for more than 25 years until her retirement. She courageously battled R.A. and Parkinson's for more than 30 years before her body gave up the fight. Benie was beloved by so many friends who took care of her throughout the years. She loved to travel, going to casinos and shopping. Benie could be hysterically funny and she was very wise, always listening with an open heart to her friends.
Benie will be dearly missed by her mother; two sisters, Prime and Meribel; two sisters-in-law, Peggy (Dale) Rohrbeck of Lapeer and Ann (John) LaFear of Davison; many step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
A special acknowledgement goes to Janice Emmendorfer, her devoted caregiver for many years, who weathered all of the ups and downs with Benie.
