PRUITT, John Herman - Of Burton, age 83, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 after battling cancer for 5 1/2 years.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Floyd Holland officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation 10am Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Genesee County Humane Society.
John was born in Offutt, Kentucky on January 15, 1934, the son of the late John and Ruth Pruitt. Mr. Pruitt graduated from high school in Kentucky, Class of 1951. He joined the army at the age of 17 serving 11 months in Korea.
He married Daisy Marie Young, his loving wife of 46 ½ years on March 24, 1956. She preceded him in death on May 27, 2001. John worked at old Chevrolet (Down in the Hole) for 39 ½ years. He then drove a tractor trailer for 13 years retiring in 2008. John was a proud member of UAW Local #659. John was a Committee Man for 18 years and was a hard fighter for those he represented. He was reelected several times starting when elections were one year terms. He never lost a chance to tell anyone he was a proud member of the UAW and Local #659. John was a proud union member until the end.
He was a HUGE NASCAR FANatic and loved the Detroit Tigers. John could be seen visiting his wife's grave daily, many years after her passing.
Surviving are his daughters; Brenda (David) Wallace of Burton; Sandra Pruitt & Marshall Horton of Knoxville, TN;
2 granddaughters, Jennie Derminer (William Papp) and Danielle Pettigrew and husband Anderson;
3 great-grandchildren, Zoey, Diezel John, and Autumn Wilkins;
brother, Phillip (Carol) Pruitt of Kentucky;
and two great cousins, Dickee and Danny Preston of Kentucky.
