Nowak, Isidore Sylvester, age 89, of Flushing, died Monday, April 28, 2014, at Genesys Convalescent Center. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2014 at St. Robert Catholic Church. Fr. Roy Horning will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Thursday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass at the church. A Rosary will be 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a Knights of Columbus Memorial Service at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Robert School for tuition assistance.

Izzy was born in Flint, Michigan on October 21, 1924, the second son of Peter and Catherine (Kalpinski) Nowak. He left Flushing High School to join the Army from 1943 to 1946 as a Medic during World War II. He also had two other brothers in the Army, Marion and Edward. Izzy married Geraldine Marie Bundy in 1947 and they celebrated their lives together for 42 years. Izzy and Gerri loved to take summer vacations with their family, played in many card clubs and enjoyed bowling. They were both involved in many many other social activities. Sadly, Geraldine passed away in 1989. Izzy was employed by Buick, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church and a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight with the Mt. Morris Council Knights of Columbus. He was also a lifetime member of the Flushing V.F.W. Post #5666. Isidore married his second wife, Frances Mohrman in 1996. They resided in Bradenton, Florida during the winter months, where he took up golf. He and Fran enjoyed many polka dances, Caribbean and river cruises. Izzy was very much a people person and enjoyed the company of others. He will be greatly missed by many friends and family.

Izzy is survived by his second wife, Frances; son, Dale (Sherri) Nowak; daughters, Christine (Stephen) Howell, Kitty (Ed) Nowak, Phyllis “Annie” (Robert) Nowak; 12 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert and Walt Nowak. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine; daughter, Patricia; brothers, Edward and Marion “Frank” Nowak.
