Bill Mince
January 27, 1935 – June 30, 2024
Billy Joe Mince, beloved husband of Patricia Mince, departed from this world on June 30, 2024 at the age of 89 to meet his Lord and Savior. Bill was born on January 27, 1935 in Flint, Michigan to Harry Samuel Mince and Mary Victoria Mince (Coffey). He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Bill lived a full and vibrant life. He was a husband to Pat Mince for 66 wonderful years. He fondly recalls the first time he saw her. “She was beautiful, exiting the car with a lot of crinolines!” Together they raised three cherished children: Greg, Geoff and Lisa. Bill, along with Pat, were lifelong members of First General Baptist Church in Flint. Together they imparted and nurtured the most important thing to each of their children- a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. As a result, both Bill and Pat leave behind an incredible legacy.

Bill was the youngest of six Mince boys and as such, he always had someone to look up to. He graduated from Flint Central High School where he loved to play basketball and baseball. He was an avid golfer and fondly recalls his hole-in-one. Bill enjoyed his work and was a Tool Maker at GM’s Chevrolet Manufacturing Plant retiring in 1997 after 44 years.

Those who knew Bill knew that he loved being Pat’s husband. When he wasn’t doting on Pat, he loved watching the Michigan Wolverines, all Detroit sports teams, and the sporting events of his grandchildren. As did Pat, Bill loved to know what was going on in the lives of his six grandchildren- two engineers, a nurse, an esthetician, a flight attendant, and a graphic designer with enough stories between them all to fill a heart with pride. As a father, he was humble, kind, and forgiving. He was a great role model as an earthly father and pointed his kids and grandkids to the same love they would find in a Heavenly Father. Bill would often recall special moments of vacationing with the kids and grandkids at Walt Disney World and golfing with his family. He loved bowling, gospel music, Final Jeopardy clues, salting his Cheez It crackers, and loving on his family. Though his health declined in recent years, his gentleness, kindness, and humility continued to increase and flourish.

Those surviving him will hold tight to the memories he leaves behind. Bill was a husband to his wife Pat. He was a caring and loving father to sons Greg (Marji) of Flushing, MI, and Geoff (Michelle) of Medina, OH, and to daughter Lisa (Mike) Lushin of Grand Blanc, MI. His grandchildren Haley Mince (Medina), Evan Mince (Rochester), Connor (Megan) Lushin (Kansas City), Sydney Lushin (Chicago), Kelsey Carmien (Bay City), and Jordyn (Seth) Griffin (Flint) filled his heart with joy. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Thurman, Chester, Harry Jr., Eugene, and Albert, and his wife Patricia.

A private service with family will take place later. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Hospice Foundation of America (hospicefoundation.org).
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to both the entire team at Provision Living of Fenton and to The Medical Team’s Hospice Group for their compassionate care and support of Bill. A special note of thanks to Sara Terryah, Bill’s hospice nurse.

Bill’s legacy of kindness, and humor will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be dearly missed though never forgotten.
