SMITH, Donald Raymond (Smitty) – Of Flint, age 73, died Friday, August 19, 2016 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday August 23, 2016
Swartz Funeral Home 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Lawrence Gill officiating.
Burial in Flint Memorial Park.
Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation 1-8 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home.
Donald was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 9, 1942, the son of
Emery and Melda (Gray) Smith.
Donald finished high school, moved to Flint and began a career with the City of Flint in Forestry Management, retiring after 37 ½ years. He then spent 17 years at the Flint Auto Auction.
On August 26, 1961 he married his sweetheart, Kaye Lynn Goodman in Mt. Morris and they began a family, raising a son and a daughter.
Don and family enjoyed camping, boating and after his retirement in 1994, Don and Kaye spent many wonderful days at their spot in Hale, Michigan. At the camping spot in Hale, their children and neighbors threw a wonderful 50th anniversary party for them!
Surviving are his loving wife Kaye;
son, Jeffrey (Billie Jo) of Davison;
daughter, Shelley (Dan) Franklin;
granddaughters, Danielle and Samantha;
one brother, five sisters;
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister and his dog, Bo.
