Skarbek, Helen of Flushing, age 89, died Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Genesee Care Center. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 400 N. Saginsaw St., Montrose, MI 48457. Fr. Gordon Reigle will officiate. Burial will follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Tuesday at Rossell Funeral Home and 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Tuesday at Rossell Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contribution may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Helen was born in Flushing, Michigan on October 2, 1927, the daughter of Andrew and Anna (Adamov) Elasivich. She married Louis E. Skarbek in Flint, Michigan on August 14, 1948. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1997. Helen was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Flushing Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre, and going to casinos. Helen also enjoyed fishing and spending time at her cabin on Hubbard Lake.
She is survived by her five children, Carol and husband David Green, Edward L. Skarbek, Patty Cole, Cheryl Kasubeck, Annette and husband Timothy Lloyd; nine grandchildren, Andrea, Matt, Lindsey, Chad, Sara, Leanne, Paul, Ashley, Zach; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, John Elasivich; sister, Pauline and Don Kasubeck; sister-in-law, Leona Elasivich; and many other close family members and dear friends. Helen was also preceded in death by her granddaughters, Sandra, Lisa, and Erin; three brothers and three sisters. |
