POWELL, Harry E. Sr. – of Flushing, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 1PM Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose with military honors under the direction of the Montrose American Legion Post #367. Minister John Southern officiating. Cremation to follow. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11AM until 8PM and Thursday from 10AM until the time of service at 1PM. In memory of Harry, Contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
Harry was born February 8, 1931 in Flint, Michigan to the late Otis and Beatrice (Hamilton) Powell. He married Kathleen “Katie” Waldorf on April 18, 1953 in Flint. Mr. Powell is a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran. Harry retired from Chevrolet V8 Engine with 20 years seniority. For the past 20 years, Harry worked for the family business, First Class Homes Inc. in Clio. He was a member of Clio Church of Christ on Newcrest, UAW Local #659, Montrose Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #4090 and the American Legion on Carpenter Rd. in Flint. Harry was a jack of all trades and enjoyed camping, fishing and car rides. Above all, He loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are: Wife, Katie Powell of Flushing, Sons: Kevin Powell (Sue Ann) of Montrose, Harry (Tammy Kay) Powell Jr., of Montrose, Steven (Kim) Powell of Montrose, Joseph (Diane) Powell of Montrose, and Maynard “Ted” Powell of Montrose; Many grandchildren and great grandchildren; Daughter in law, Renée Powell; Brothers: Riley Powell, John Hunt, Larry Hunt, and Gary Hunt; Sisters: Janice Nichols, Linda Hargrave, and Nancy Krueger; Many other loving family members and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his Son, Christopher Powell; Sister, Darlene Burke, and granddaughter, Leslie Powell.
