SMITH, Johnny R. - Of Flint, age 81, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at McLaren-Flint.
Funeral service will be held 1pm Thursday, January 23, 2014
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Joe Hall officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery with military service under the auspices of VFW Post #822.
Contributions may be made to American Lung Association.
Visitation 12-3pm and 5-8pm Wednesday and 11am Thursday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Johnny was born in Flint on April 28, 1932, the son of the late Willard and Fay Smith. Johnny married Patricia Grove on July 18, 1952 in Flint. He served in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. Johnny enjoyed fishing, playing cards, camping and family activities. He retired from General Motors Fisher Body Coldwater Road Plant in 1986 after 32 years of service and was a member of UAW Local #326.
Surviving are wife, Patricia;
4 children, Linda and husband Wendell Williston of Davison, Shelley and husband Robert Dennis of Linden, Richard and wife Cindy Smith of Davison and Kathryn and husband Robert Curphy of Davison;
11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren;
sister, Donna Wilson of Flint;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Wayne and wife Jeanette Grove of Manistee and George and wife Sharon Elford of Lennon;
many nieces and nephews.
Johnny was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
