Lillian Faye Wheeler, age 93 of Flint, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018. She was born July 15, 1925 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to parents James and Jennie (Hibbard) O’Neal. She went to school through the 10th grade and then first worked at picking cotton in Arkansas, then in her later teens she worked at a shoe factory in Sikeston and a shirt factory and union cap factory in St. Louis. On February 19, 1947, Lillian married the love of her life, Robert Wheeler. Lillian and her husband Robert enjoyed vacations and camping at Sleeper State Park when her children were growing up. Everyone loved spending time at the lake together. After retirement, they left the cold Michigan winters and headed to Ft. Myers, Florida which only lasted for seven years when she got tired of seeing nothing but “old people,” so they stayed home because that’s where all of their grandbabies were. She loved her grandchildren – the more the better! Known as Mom, Grandma, Grandma Faye, or Lillian Faye, she was the heart and magnet of the family. Lillian is survived by her husband, Robert James Wheeler; children: Shelia (Bill) Brooks of Carmel, IN; Chris Wheeler and Pamela Margalis of Flushing, MI; Melinda (Rick) Pryor from Denver, CO; grandchildren: William Brooks III from Spanish Fort, AL; Allison Brooks Bowes from Clermont, FL; Heather Wheeler from Flushing, MI; Amanda Brooks from Fishers, IN; Briana Orsborne from Austin, TX; great-grandchildren: William Brooks IV, Ryan Brooks, Brittany Barker, Zachary Butler, Austin Barker, Zoe Butler, Miya Songs, Isaac Butler, and Riley Bowes.; sister, Opal Marie Smith; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by grandson, Christopher Wheeler, Jr. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Rd., Flushing. Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 2-7pm. Interment at Flint Memorial Park. Those desiring may make a memorial contribution to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals. |
