BEREZNY, Michael - Of Flushing, beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa, a very dear man full of wisdom and love and knowledge, age 89, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Hurley Medical Center.
Mr. Berezny will rest at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, with visitation 1-7pm Friday. A Parastas Service will be held at 7pm Friday evening. The Funeral Divine Liturgy will be at 10am Saturday, May 4, 2013 at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, 2333 N. Elms Road in Flushing, MI, officiated by Father David A. Hannes, pastor.
Burial will take place at St. Michael Byzantine Cemetery following the liturgy.
Michael was born in Flint on April 22, 1924 and resided in Flint his entire life before moving to Flushing in 1985. He married Stella Panagapka on November 1, 1952 in Toronto, Canada. They were married for 60 years prior to his death. Michael graduated from Flint Northern High School, Class of 1943. He was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Gasoline Service Station Dealers Association of Michigan, United Commercial Travelers (UCT), and the Greek Catholic Union of Flint. Michael owned and operated Berezny Brother’s Service Station for 50 years with his brother, John Berezny, retiring in 1993. Michael loved listening to polka music, smoking cigars, watching sports and watching his grandchildren play sports.
He leaves to cherish, wife, Stella; son, Daniel Berezny and wife Lynn of Flint; daughter, Patricia Berezny-Bozoki of Fenton;
grandchildren, Sarah Massey (Jason) of Phoenix, AZ; Stephanie Bozoki of San Diego, CA; and Michael Berezny (fiancée Erica Weiss) of Auburn Hills, MI; great-grandsons, Kaleb Robert Massey and Jaden Cole Massey of Phoenix, AZ;
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Mary Berezny, brother John Berezny, Jr. in 1995, sister Mary Sversko in 2006 and very close dear friend of the family, John Klobucar-Big John Steak and Onion in 2011.
Those desiring may make contributions to the St. Michael’s Cemetery or to the Greater Flint Olympian and CANUSA Games. Michael will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
