MENDENHALL, Earl – Of Grand Blanc, age 87, died on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Genesys Hospice Care Center.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Kirkridge Presbyterian Church, 8070 South Saginaw Road, Grand Blanc, Reverend Glenn Grant officiating.
Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to Kirkridge Presbyterian Church or Genesys Hospice in Goodrich.
Visitation 1-8 p.m. Friday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Masonic Service will be conducted by Morning Star Lodge #556, F.&A.M. of Swartz Creek at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Mendenhall will be at the church from 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of the service.
Earl was born in Bowie, Texas on December 8, 1923, and was a resident of Grand Blanc since 1963. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Iceland and then Europe and also received a Bronze Star.
On September 14, 1946 he married Rose Pluta and she preceded him in death in 2009, after 63 wonderful years together.
Earl was a founding member of Kirkridge Presbyterian Church, a lifelong member of the Masons and currently a respected member of the Morning Star Lodge #556, F.&A.M. of Swartz Creek.
Mr. Mendenhall retired from Chevy V-8 Engine Plant, after 35 years.
He was a warm and caring husband and father, who will be missed terribly by his family.
Surviving are two children, Linda and husband Ralph Thibodeau of Marysville, Bruce and wife Connie of Brighton; two grandchildren, Eric and wife Keiko and Andrew; one great-grandson, Cole. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, La Rue, Eunice and Ruby; three brothers, Ollie, Raymond and Clarence.
