LINTZ, Robert Neil “Bob” - Of Holly, formerly of Fenton, age 89, died Thursday, October 9, 2014 at The Oaks at Woodfield.

Funeral service will be held 11am Thursday, October 16, 2014 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,

Reverend Russ Sommer officiating.

Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.

Visitation 2-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Robert was born in Flint on May 20, 1925, the son of the late Donald and Matilda (Mayberry) Lintz. He married Jacqueline Conklin in 1946 and she preceded him in death in 1986. He married Mickie LaChapelle in 1998. Bob served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the USS Kennebec, a fleet oiler. He was very proud to have been a crew member of the USS Kennebec when it assisted with the historic capture and towing of the German Submarine, the U-505 (Which is now on display in Chicago) from off the coast of North Africa to Bermuda. The German Enigma machine, as well as code books and charts were captured which helped save countless American lives. This capture was considered “Top Secret” by the United States. He also served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. Bob was a member of Fenton VFW Post #3243. He loved playing cards and watching westerns and ballgames on T.V. Bob was employed at GM Fisher Body Grand Blanc, retiring in 1976.

Surviving are wife, Mickie;

children, Pamela (Rod) Purkey, Timothy (Debby), Craig (Kathy), Brian (Karin), Jody (Danielle), Judy Couch, Thomas and fiancé Jennifer and Jacie (Shannon);

step-children, Karen (Gerry Davis) LaChapelle, Kathy (Bob) Waggoner and Steven (Diana) LaChapelle;

18 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren;

brothers, Joseph (Wendy) Sand, Richard (JoAnne) Sand and Archie (LuAnn ) Lintz;

sisters, Florence Koblinski, Shirley Sharick and Kay (Richard) Williams;

and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sister, Donna Nelson, step-daughter, Kristine Walker, great-granddaughters, Brianne Paige Karbowski and Lillianna Gayle Dye and son-in-law, David Couch.
